Engineering Lecturer awarded grant for SPARK! Festival 2017

Dr Colin Dowding has been awarded £29,660 by The Royal Academy of Engineering to enhance and enrich SPARK! Engineering Festival 2017; a celebration of Lincolnshire’s engineering heritage, prowess and future.

The third SPARK! Engineering Festival in Lincoln will be hosted at the monumental Lincoln Cathedral. Since the festival’s inception in 2013, it’s been hugely popular- over 8,000 visitors attended the event in 2015. The 3-day festival hopes to engage and inspire budding engineers of all ages and industry professionals will be present- a great opportunity for attendees to interact and engage with professional engineers.

Aided by funding received from the Royal Academy of Engineering, our School of Engineering will be exhibiting. There will be the opportunity to design and construct go-karts alongside our academic staff, technical team and students.

Dr Colin Dowding said: “This project was one of 17 projects funded nationally from over 126 applications; demonstrating the strong collaboration the School of Engineering has developed with industrial partners and local educational charities such as the Education Business Partnership (EBP) and Engineering Development Trust (EDT) through the SPARK! festival.”

The event is free and all ages and backgrounds are welcome!

If your school would like to attend but doesn’t have a budget for transport, please contact Dr Colin Dowding on cdowding@lincoln.ac.uk / 01522 83 7914. We have funding to provide free coach transport for schools!
